SQUIRREL Money Box
Typical Maxim Velčovský. In 2005, he took traditional porcelain figurines, purely decorative items, and cut a "slot for coins" into them. That's provocative DIY design. The result was piggy banks; now the figurines had a function!
Here, too, Velčovský applied his favorite technique of redesign. He started with a kitschy "vintage" sculpture of a squirrel sitting on its hind legs, which he improved by adding an elongated slit to the figure's back, thus transforming it into a piggy bank. The designer was referencing a time when porcelain figurines were worth a fortune and therefore affordable only to a select few.
The figures were produced in very small quantities and there is no "opening" to remove what was thrown in (without breaking it).
White porcelain with coin slot, Royal Dux Bohemia
Edition QUBUS Prague by 25 cm high, 23 cm wide, 9 cm deep
