Hubert Griemert & Gerhard Kardow, Piston vase for KPM Berlin

The piston vase is one of Hubert Griemert's best-known designs for the KPM manufactory. At the beginning of 1956, KPM produced the small piston vase 1 (model and tax number 19235/5,8855) for the first time with a foliate net decoration designed by Gerhard Kadow. Gerhard Kadow was a Bauhaus student of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. In addition to the white vase, the piston vase 1 was also produced in basalt porcelain*.

Form design Hubert Griemert, 1953
Decor by Gerhard Kardow, 1955

I currently have three options :

Model piston-shaped vase 1, height approx. 18.6 cm, model design Hubert Griemert, white porcelain , scepter mark in underglaze blue before 1962

Model piston-shaped vase 1 with foliate net decoration, height approx. 18.6 cm, model design Hubert Griemert, relief decoration Gerhard Kadow 1955, white porcelain relief , scepter mark in underglaze blue before 1962

Piston-shaped vase model 1 with leaf net engraving, height approx. 17.6 cm, model design Hubert Griemert, relief decoration Gerhard Kadow 1955, basalt body or basalt porcelain , mark impressed in the unglazed base

* The so-called basalt porcelain gets its deep brown, almost black color from the addition of manganese, copper and iron oxide and is almost always used unglazed.

Both vases are of course first choice and in excellent condition.
