Gio Ponti (Milan 1891–1979) was a key figure in Italian modernism; his work cannot be confined to a single artistic field. From 1923 to 1930, Ponti was the artistic director of the now legendary Italian tableware manufacturer Richard Ginori. In 1928, he founded the internationally renowned magazine "Domus," which he edited—apart from a hiatus in the 1940s—until his death. In the post-war period, Ponti and his collaborators Antonio Fornaroli and Alberto Rosselli shaped the architectural landscape of Milan, but were also active worldwide, from Caracas and Tehran to Denver, Islamabad, Eindhoven, and Stockholm. This book illuminates the multifaceted aspects of Ponti's contribution to the 20th century and traces his enduring influence in Italy and around the world.
