A kettle, or caldor (also called a whistling kettle or flute kettle when equipped with a steam whistle), is used to heat water to boiling point, for example, for preparing tea or coffee. Kettles with steam whistles have been known in Europe since the 17th century. In 1983, Richard Sapper reinvented the kettle.
