Nutcracker by Andrea Branzi, 1991 for TWERGI

Nutcracker, Schiaccianoci

a statement, not just for walnuts...

In 1989, ALESSI acquired PIAZZA BATTISTA, one of the oldest, traditional wood turners in the Strona Valley on Lake Orta. Alberto Alessi named his label TWERGI and commissioned Milton Glaser for the CI and some of the most renowned designers for the product designs. The goal was to bring traditional wood processing techniques into the present.

Andrea Branzi (1938 - 2023) studied architecture in his hometown Florence. In 1966, he founded Archizoom-Associati with Paolo Deganello, Gilberto Corretti, and Massimo Morozzi. The group is considered the founder of anti-design. In 1975, Branzi co-founded and became a member of Studio Alchimia with Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini.
