A kettle or caldor (also known as a whistling kettle or flute kettle when fitted with a steam whistle) is used to heat water to boiling point, including for making tea or coffee. Steam whistle kettles have been known in Europe since the 17th century. Richard Sapper reinvented the kettle in 1983.
