ALESSI – The factory in Crusinallo. Founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi in Crusinallo, Piedmont, ALESSI developed from a simple manufacturer of household goods into one of the world's best-known brands for design objects.
A turning point in the company's history came in July 1970, when Alberto Alessi, the founder's grandson, took over the management. Under his leadership, ALESSI transformed into a true design factory—a place where not only things were produced, but ideas were born.
In 1979, Alberto Alessi brought architect and designer Alessandro Mendini into the company as a design consultant—a groundbreaking decision. Together, they not only shaped the company, but changed the world...at least the world of design.
The list of contributors reads like a who's who of international design: Richard Sapper, Aldo Rossi, Ettore Sottsass, Achille Castiglioni, Andrea Branzi, Paola Navone, Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison, Enzo Mari – to name but a few. They all designed objects for ALESSI that have long since become icons.
