Georg Sowden Timer ALPHONSE for ALESSI
STS02 "Alphonse" Electronic musical timer
Electronic kitchen timer
George Sowden was born in Leeds, England, in 1942. From 1960 to 1968, he studied architecture at Gloucester College of Art. After completing his studies, he moved to Milan in 1970, where he worked as a design consultant for Olivetti and met Ettore Sottsass.
In 1980, he founded the SowdenDesign studio together with designer Nathalie du Pasquier, who later became his wife, and the studio is still active today. A year later, in 1981, Sowden became one of the founding members of the Memphis group.
In the 1990s, he increasingly specialized in the design of electronic devices. George Sowden continues to live and work in Milan and is considered one of the defining figures of postmodern design.
The timer was available in three colors, and a special melody called "Musica" was composed for each color. The composer was Steve Piccolo, and "Luback 27" was composed for the yellow Alphonse.
I don't know why the timer was named Alphonse.
The top knob/knob has a visible, very narrow hairline crack, which is a recurring issue with this timer.
