George Sowden was born in Leeds, England, in 1942. From 1960 to 1968, he studied architecture at Gloucester College of Art. After completing his studies, he moved to Milan in 1970, where he worked as a design consultant for Olivetti and met Ettore Sottsass.
In 1980, he founded the SowdenDesign studio together with designer Nathalie du Pasquier, who later became his wife, and the studio is still active today. A year later, in 1981, Sowden became one of the founding members of the Memphis group.
In the 1990s, he increasingly specialized in the design of electronic devices. George Sowden continues to live and work in Milan and is considered one of the defining figures of postmodern design.
I acquired the calculator from a collector. Everything works. There is one special feature: the battery compartment on the underside has a yellow cover, which was replaced with an original spare part. The blue cover is also still there, but it doesn't fit properly.
