In 1989, ALESSI took over PIAZZA BATTISTA, one of the oldest traditional woodturning companies in the Strona Valley on Lake Orta. Alberto Alessi named his label TWERGI and commissioned Milton Glaser for the CI and some of the most famous designers for the product designs. The aim was to bring traditional woodworking techniques into the present day. Ettore Sottsass was involved from the very beginning.
