Alessandro Mendini designed the vase (form) back in 1992 for the "100% MAKE UP" project. He created the Proust decoration for the exhibition "Italy - Germany 4:3 / 50 Years of Italian and German Design" at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn in June 2000. However, only two vases were produced for the exhibition. To mark the 100th anniversary of ALESSI (1921 - 2021), the vase is available in a limited edition of 999 pieces worldwide.

The lid and base are decorated with real gold, which is still done by hand today. The vase is then fired and the gold is brushed again while cold.
